Dear President Obama,
You cannot imagine how happy it makes me to type those words. Your historic inauguration is surely the start of something amazing and I am grateful and amazed that I am present for it. Furthermore, after eight long years of a president who has shown no concern for the people of this great nation, has shown no shame for his criminal actions and bad judgment, and has turned a blind eye to the rape and pillaging of our earth, it is a joy to have a fresh new start with such hope and promise. I, like hundreds of thousands of my fellow Americans, have a great deal of faith in you to help us work toward a solution for our generation’s biggest problems.
Global warming is a reality that needs to be addressed with scientific and economic forces working together to renew and revitalize our economy with sustainable practices. Right now is the time to create change, with automakers asking for government handouts. It is the prime opportunity to attach strings to those handouts that will not only force them to abandon or modify faulty business practices that brought them to the brink of bankruptcy, but also to create greener automobiles that will be able to compete with the overseas versions. The American people have shown an eagerness for this type of technology and there are so many more innovations to be made to it.
Furthermore, I hope that you will take a good, long look at the despicable practices of the oil and coal companies and realize that not only are they bad for the environment, but they are bad for the American people. Corruption, lies, and secrecy is not the way a government OR a business should be run and yet both of these industries use these as the bedrock on which they stand. If you were to take away even a fraction of their influence by putting a stop to mountaintop removal coal mining and the rampant corruption and bribes in the Minerals Management Service, then putting green energy on an even footing will be much simpler.
Mr. Obama, I am confident that you will do everything in your power to bring about the transition that America really needs and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for the stands you have begun to take and wish you nothing but luck.
